Our class had the honor of hearing Mrs. Candace Gary and Paige Johannessen speak to our class about financial planning. Candace Gary is the owner, certified financial planner, and wealth advisor at Gary and Associates. Paige is her financial planning assistant.
Mrs. Gary opened up to us about what drove her to ultimately become one of Baton Rouge’s finest Certified Financial Planners. Mrs. Gary, as a coffee shop owner, became interested in financial planning for the small business owner. She moved back to Baton Rouge and started her practice. She explained to us that becoming a successful financial planner is not something that you wake up to. It’s hard work. Ameriprise presented her with a call list, from those calls, 15 became clients. Her practice has grown because of her excellent work with current customers who, in turn, refer others to her. Being a financial planner calls for a deeper, more personal relationship with clients beyond just finances. Candace Gary exudes such a passion for what she does. She excited not only me but also the rest of the class about her profession.
Paige Johannessen then spoke to use about what led her to financial planning. Initially she came to LSU to become a teacher. After changing majors twice, she finally found her calling, personal finance, which combined all her passions of teaching, marketing, and finance. What I found most interesting is how Paige achieved her job at Gary and Associates. She told our class that one day after a presentation by Mrs. Gary that she confidently went up to her and proclaimed that she would like to work for Gary and Associates. That amazed me and encouraged me to be a go-getter as well.
Mrs. Gary and Paige did a fantastic job of capturing our class’s attention and adequately answering all of our questions. Candace Gary is such an eloquent speaker who holds such a passion for financial planning. Not only is she excited about what she does but she also leads others to be excited about financial planning as well. I certainly suggest that she be asked to speak for future classes and seminars.
